Local Space has been awarded £508,105 by the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) as part of its Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund (Wave 3). This fund upgrades social homes currently below the recommended energy efficiency level (Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) band C) by installing insulation, upgrading heating systems and improving energy efficiency.
Local Space will match-fund the grant awarded which will boost the amount to over £1 million, over three years. In partnership with E.ON, improvements will be made to Local Space homes that are most in need and will include cavity wall insulation, loft insulation and ventilation upgrades. These measures will improve the energy performance of customers’ homes which should reduce their energy consumption and costs.
Kumraz Khan, Assistant Development Director at Local Space, said: “We’re thrilled to receive this funding, which will help us to make our homes warmer, more energy efficient and cheaper to run for our customers. This will make a real difference to their experience living at home and will help with their energy bills.
“We are committed to the UK Government’s target of reducing carbon emissions, supporting green jobs and developing the retrofit sector. This funding will help us to continue working towards our ambition to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.”
This follows Local Space’s successful funding bid of £919,000 as part of the Wave 2.1 award in April 2023, which saw us deliver retrofit works to 66 properties in 2024-25, with an additional 37 properties currently in progress and scheduled for completion by September 2025.
Minister for Energy Consumers, Miatta Fahnbulleh, said: “Living in a warm, comfortable home should not be a luxury. It is a right that has been out of reach for too many people for too long.
“By giving this funding to local authorities and social housing providers we are delivering on our promise to improve the homes of thousands of people across England.
“As part of our Plan for Change, we are powering on with our Warm Homes Plan, upgrading cold and draughty homes so they are warmer, cleaner, and cheaper to live in.”
The Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund Wave 3 will deliver £1.29 billion to 144 projects in England from 2025 to 2028.
